When you find a job that you are interested in, click the 'Apply Now' on the job listing.

You will be asked some screening questions to ensure you are eligible to apply for the position.

An example question might be: 'Are you a UK resident or do you possess a UK work permit?'.

You must pass the screening questions in order to apply. If you don't meet the criteria the following message is displayed - 'Unfortunately on this occasion you do not meet the required specfication for this role. Please contact HR if you have any questions by emailing vacancies@davidmacbraynehr.co.uk.'.

If you pass the screening questions you will be taken to the application login screen where you can login to apply if you already have an existing CalMac account, or create an account before applying.

You can sign up for job alerts on the Vacancies page by searching for the job that you are interested in.

You need to login to your CalMac account in to create an alert. Once you have logged in you will see the Job alert notification.

You will then be notified via email each time a job is advertised that matches your alert.

Once you have created an account and applied for a job you can track the progress of your application(s) within our recruitment portal under the 'My applications' section.

Due to the high volume of applications we receive we are unable to offer feedback on your CV. We have, however, included some useful tips below which will help make your CV relevant. 

• Not meeting the basic qualifications: if you do not meet the basic qualifications for the job your CV is unlikely to be shortlisted. Make sure you read the role profile carefully and only apply for roles where you meet the basic qualifications.
• Lack of relevant experience: if the job requires specific skills or experience and your CV does not highlight those skills or experience, it is unlikely to be shortlisted.
• Lack of customisation: sending the same generic CV for every job application may not be effective. Tailor your CV to match the job description, highlighting how your skills and experience match the specific requirements of the role.
• High competition: if there are many applicants for a particular job it may be more difficult to get shortlisted. Consider applying for roles where you have the strongest match of skills and experience. It's important to keep in mind that the hiring process can be highly competitive and selective, so not being shortlisted does not necessarily mean you are not qualified. Keep refining your CV, seeking feedback from others, and continuing to apply for positions that match your qualifications and interests.

Confirmation will be displayed and an application reference number provided. You will also receive email confirmation to the email address you provided.

If you are selected for interview you will receive an emailing inviting you to choose an interview slot. The interview invitation will contain the information you require to prepare for your interview, such as location, duration, etc. If you have any questions regarding your interview you can contact vacancies@davidmacbraynehr.co.uk.

Your application will be saved and you can upload at a later stage. However, you cannot submit your application until you have attached the required documentation.

The 'Apply By' date on the job advert is the date applications close.

Our Agile Working Policy promotes a blended or hybrid approach. Colleagues may, by agreement with their line manager, choose to work from any of our Port locations or from home to carry out the elements of their role which can be effectively carried out remotely. This is providing they are able to travel to their contractual office location when required to work with colleagues or for face to face meetings.

We would expect colleagues to work from home for a maximum of two to three days per week, with the remaining days spent in the office or in the network. This will depend on the requirements of their role and will vary by department.

Port based roles: interviews for most port based roles will be held onsite, at the Port where the vacancy will be based.

Seagoing roles: interviews will primarily be conducted via Microsoft Teams. Dependent on the role, there may be a requirement for a second stage interview to take place at our Head Office in Gourock.

Office based roles: interviews for office based roles will primarily take place via Microsoft Teams, with any second stage interviews being held at our Head Office in Gourock.
