When you find a job that you are interested in, click the ‘Apply Now’ on the job listing.

You will then be asked some screening questions. This is to ensure you are eligible to apply for the position.

An example question is ‘Are you a UK resident or do you possess a UK work permit?’.

You must pass the screening questions in order to apply. If you do not meet the criteria, the following message is displayed - "Unfortunately on this occasion you do not meet the required specfication for this role. Please contact HR if you have any questions by emailing vacancies@davidmacbraynehr.co.uk

If you do pass the screening questions, you will then be taken to the application log in screen where you can either log in to apply – if you already have an existing account, or create an account to apply.

You can sign up for job alerts on the Vacancies page by Searching for the job that you are interested in.

You need to be signed in to create an alert. Once you have signed in, you will see the Job alert notification.

You will then be notified via email each time a job that matches your alert is advertised.

Once you have created an account and applied for a job, you can track the progress of your application(s) within our recruitment portal under the ‘My applications’ section.

Due to the high volume of applications that we receive, we are unable to offer feedback on your CV. We have, however, included some useful tips below, which will make your CV relevant and up to date.  

• Not meeting the basic qualifications: If you do not meet the basic qualifications for the job, your CV is unlikely to be shortlisted. Make sure you read the role profile carefully and only apply for roles where you meet the basic qualifications.
• Lack of relevant experience: If the job requires specific skills or experience, and your CV does not highlight those skills or experience, it is unlikely to be shortlisted.
• Lack of customisation: Sending the same generic CV to every job application may not be effective. Tailor your CV to match the job description and highlight how your skills and experience match the specific requirements of the role.
• High competition: If there are many applicants for a particular job, it may be more difficult to get shortlisted. Consider applying for roles where you have a stronger match of skills and experience. It's important to keep in mind that the hiring process can be highly competitive and selective, so not being shortlisted does not necessarily mean you are not qualified. Keep refining your CV, seeking feedback from others, and continuing to apply for positions that match your qualifications and interests.

Confirmation will be displayed with an application reference number provided. You will also receive email confirmation to the email address you provided.

If you are invited to interview, you will receive an emailing inviting you to select an interview slot. Your application will be saved, and you can upload at a later stage. However, you cannot submit your application until you have attached the required documentation.

The ‘Apply By’ date on the job advert is the date the advert closes.

Our Agile Working Policy promotes a blended or hybrid approach, whereby colleagues may, by agreement with their line manager, choose to work from any of our Port locations or from home to carry out the elements of their role which can be effectively carried out remotely, provided they are able to travel to their contractual office location to work with colleagues, or when required for face to face meetings.

We would expect colleagues to work from home for a maximum of two to three days per week, with the remaining days spent in the office or in the network. However, this will depend on the requirements of their role, and will vary by department.

Port based roles: Most Port based roles will be held onsite at the Port where the vacancy will be based.

Seagoing roles: These interviews will primarily be conducted on Microsoft Teams. Dependant on the role, there may be a requirement for a second stage interview to take place at our Head Office in Gourock.

Office based roles: Office based roles will primarily take place on Microsoft Teams, with any second stage interviews being held at our Head Office in Gourock.
