Yachts should keep the Calvay Lighthouse on their port side whilst transiting the sound into Lochboisdale. Yachts must make prior booking before approaching the pier.

Cruise Ships

Only cruise vessels less than 80m and with a draught of no more than 4m can use this port to come alongside.

Cruise Ship Tenders

There is no slipway at this port only a small set of steps at the back of the pier. The linkspan can be lowered to be used by larger tenders.

Commercial Vessels

Vessels of less than 80 meters in length and 4m or less in draught can use this port.

Fishing Vessels

Fishing vessels can use main ferry pier when not in use by the ferry, subject to payment of pier dues

About the local harbour

Lochboisdale is a very quiet area, it does have a new marina that could be used by Yachts. Lochboisdale offers direct access to South Uist.

All vessels operating in the bay are requested to listen to VHF CH 12 at all times. Large vessels will make movement safety announcements on VHF CH 12. It is important all vessels are aware of these movements so appropriate action can be taken to ensure navigational safety.
