LPS Service is available on VHF Ch12 (Callsign: Ardrossan Radio) and operate daily during the hours of the scheduled ferry service (Ardrossan – Brodick, Ardrossan – Campbelltown). Ferry services on these routes are operated by Caledonian MacBrayne and timetables are published on their website
www.calmac.co.uk. Mariners are advised to check ferry timetables as part of the passage planning process. Ardrossan Radio is manned 15 minutes before the first service and up to and including 15 minutes after the last ferry service. An LPS service will not be provided out-with these timings.
Any vessel wishing to utilise Ardrossan Harbour (other than direct Marina traffic) shall contact Ardrossan LPS during working hours and advise them of their planned arrival, departure and intended operation. Where any vessel arrives or wishes to depart outside of working hours they are to contact Ardrossan LPS at the earliest opportunity to advise them of appropriate timings.
Due to the nature of the scheduled ferry service, Ardrossan Harbour operates traffic signal lights to ensure the safety of all users. Lights are located on the lattice tower between the Irish Berth and Winton Berth.
Additional sets of lights are positioned outside the harbour on the breakwater and at the Marina entrance. The lights have the following meanings:
Lights | Meaning | Comments |
RED RED RED | Harbour and Marina Closed | Harbour and Marina CLOSED to ALL TRAFFIC |
GREEN GREEN GREEN | Marina Open (Harbour Closed) | Pleasure vessels may proceed to and from the marina. Commercial vessels requiring permission of Harbour Control are prohibited from entering, leaving or manoeuvring within the harbour. |
RED RED GREEN | Harbour Open (Marina Closed) | All pleasure vessels must clear the outer basin, canting area and approach channel immediately. Commercial vessels may manoeuvre and proceed inwards or outwards after confirmation of permission by VHF radio from Harbour Control. |
If any vessel is in any doubt, they are to keep clear and contact Ardrossan Radio on VHF 12.
