CalMac launches Community Fund to support local communities

Communities and charities across CalMac's network are being encouraged to apply for the popular CalMac Community Fund.

The fund will provide grants ranging from £1,000 to £10,000 to non-profit organisations working to support vulnerable and disadvantaged people in island and coastal communities.

Applications open on Monday 5 October and close on Monday 16 November.

The total funding of £175,000 reflects CalMac's long-standing commitment to the communities it serves. Eligible organisations can apply for a grant of between £1000 and £10000 and the fund aims to help local organisations deliver projects that:

  • Improve health, wellbeing and quality of life

  • Tackle poverty and financial hardship

  • Build stronger, more connected communities and reduce social isolation

The fund has previously supported a wide range of community-led initiatives and local projects, and CalMac is keen to hear from organisations that are making a positive difference within their communities.

Robert Morrison, CalMac's Engagement Director, said: "The communities we serve are at the heart of everything we do, and this fund is one way we can give something back. We know that local community groups, charities and voluntary organisations play a vital role in supporting people, culture, tackling isolation and improving wellbeing.

"We encourage eligible organisations to apply and help us ensure this funding reaches those who will benefit most. We look forward to supporting projects that will help our island and coastal communities continue to thrive."

Promotion of the fund will take place through local networks, community visits, online engagement and port drop-in sessions across the CalMac network. The fund is being supported by independent grant maker Foundation Scotland.
